The Children’s Room

5 tips for furnishing that stands the test of time

From the team at COZY. Design·Interior ideas

Children grow fast. The furnishing has to keep up, not age within a year. Here are five principles for a children's room that's safe, practical and grows along with the child.

Baby, child, teenager: one room, three different needs. Rely on a base that stays (bed, wardrobe, floor) and swap the easy things (textiles, décor, colour) as the child grows.

2. Safety first

Rounded edges, securely fixed furniture, non-toxic materials, storage the child can reach. Safety doesn’t show, but it’s felt.

3. Zones: sleep, play, learn

Even a small room benefits from clear zones: a calm sleeping corner, an open space to play and a dedicated desk when it’s time to study.

A good children’s room grows without being renovated every year.

4. Storage the child can reach

When toys have an easy home, tidying becomes a habit. Low shelves and boxes at the child’s level do more than a beautiful but out-of-reach cabinet.

5. Leave room for character

Colour, a favourite character, a feature wall: let the child feel the room is their own. The character can be bold; the base stays neutral and flexible.
